14th Brazilian Design Biennial: Three Projects Selected!

14th Brazilian Design Biennial: Three Projects Selected!

After a long pause, the biggest design event in Brazil is finally back and with full force! The last edition of the Brazilian Design Biennial took place in 2019, and with the 2021 event postponed due to the pandemic, anticipation for its return was high. We decided to submit our work because the Biennial has always held a special place in our story. It was one of the first major events we followed as students, and it deeply inspired us throughout our journey.

The answer came via email and it gave us goosebumps: three of our projects were selected! The message we received from the organizers moved us deeply:

14ª Bienal Brasileira de Design: três projetos selecionados! 14ª Bienal Brasileira de Design: três projetos selecionados!

“With your project on the list, you guarantee a place in the catalogue and mark your location on the historical timeline of design. You are building the history of Brazilian design.”

Message from the Brazilian Design Biennial

What is the Brazilian Design Biennial?

The Bienal Brasileira de Design is organized by ADG Brasil (Brazilian Graphic Designers Association) and has been held since 1992, long before we ever dreamed of working with design. Over the years, it has become one of the most important events in Brazilian graphic design, bringing together projects that help tell the visual story of our time.

The 2024 edition arrived with renewed energy and a theme: “Spins: movements that give voice to our stories, cultures, and identities”. This year, the Biennial took a new turn, literally. According to the organizers: “The compass needle pointed in a new direction: we set off to Aracaju (SE), aiming to expand the horizons of our celebration. The theme of the 14th Brazilian Design Biennial has its roots in the heritage of Sergipe, inspired by the vibrant local tradition known as Parafuso, a dance that celebrates the culture and ancestral history of its people.”

Our Selected Projects

The 14th edition was massive: over 1,500 projects were submitted from all corners of the country. A jury of more than 200 professionals with backgrounds in both academia and the design industry reviewed each entry with care and attention. The categories were also renamed, with broader, more playful titles that reflect the diversity and vitality of Brazilian design. In the end, 791 projects were selected, representing the last five years of national production. Among them, three of ours. Three!

Almadoré

The first selected project was the naming for Almadoré, a brand of soulful, artisanal chocolates made by many hands, from north to south of Brazil. Almadoré had already received a bronze medal at the Brasil Design Award, and now it’s been recognized again by the Biennial in the category Branding & Strategic Imagination, under the Naming subcategory.

Only eight projects were selected in this subcategory, so seeing our work alongside major studios and big-name brands was a powerful reminder of what we believe in:
when a name is born with purpose, it has the power to charm and endure.

Bangalô Ilhabela

The second selected project was the Beloved Brand of Bangalô Ilhabela, a charming guesthouse surrounded by the Atlantic forest, inviting rest and care for body and soul.

This brand was selected in the Identity & Brand Spirit category, under the Corporate Identity Systems for Small and Medium Businesses subcategory. A project that emerged from listening and from nature and is now receiving this very special recognition.

Revoança Collective

Rounding out this trio with a golden flourish, the Beloved Brand of Revoança Collective was also selected. This is a collective of incredible women who believe education is the path to social transformation.

Seeing this project gain recognition at the Biennial is emotional for us, we know the power it carries and the impact this brand represents for so many communities. It was also selected under the Corporate Identity Systems subcategory for small and medium-sized businesses.

These are projects that touch us deeply and reaffirm the purpose behind what we do. Seeing their stories featured at the Biennial isn’t just recognition: it’s a celebration of care, listening, and creativity.

Catalog of the Brazilian Design Biennial

In addition to the selection, each chosen project earns a spot in the Biennial’s official catalogue, which is far more than just a publication. It’s a historical record of Brazil’s design scene. As the organizers said themselves: “Being in the catalogue marks your place on the historical timeline of design.”

When we were in college, these catalogues were true treasures. We’d flip through them with admiration, searching for references and inspiration. And now, to see our work within these pages is a joy that’s hard to describe. We’ve already secured our printed copy (we can’t wait to smell the paper!) and will be sharing photos soon. The physical exhibition took place in Aracaju in December 2024 a beautiful reunion between design and the public after all this time apart.

Our Thanks

For a long time, participating in awards or biennials felt far out of reach. But in 2021, we decided to try and what a beautiful surprise that turned out to be. Since then, each recognition has filled us with gratitude and wonder. Being alongside such big names and talented peers fills us with pride. Celebrating this milestone at the 14th Brazilian Design Biennial is an immense joy. To the Biennial’s organizers, thank you, truly, for this inspiring space. And to each client who believes in our way of working and joins us in creating Beloved Brands, we thank you from the heart.

Have you ever imagined seeing your brand among the stories that shape design? Maybe even featured in a historic catalogue? We’re here, ready to create that future with you. Ask us for a proposal!
