From the very beginning, as we studied design, we’ve believed that good design has everything to do with changing the world and bringing about transformations for the better. In 2022, we had the chance to put this belief to the test once again: we submitted two of our projects to the Brasil Design Award, the most important design award in the country and we were thrilled to see both of them named as finalists. For the first time, we also entered a project in the Naming category, a meaningful recognition for our work creating brand names.
“The Brasil Design Award is the leading design award in Brazil. It is organized by ABEDESIGN, the Brazilian Association of Design Companies.”
ABEDESIGN
What is the Brasil Design Award?
Held annually since 2009, the Brasil Design Award is organized by ABEDESIGN (Brazilian Association of Design Companies). According to the association, the award exists to recognize and highlight the creative and innovative power of design in the Brazilian economy. Over the years, it has become the most prestigious design award in the country. The 2022 theme was “No Borders for Brazilian Design”. As stated by Gabriel Lopes, the award’s president, “Transformation is the word that best defines the essence of this event. It reflects how design has the power to shape and transform the world around us. Brazilian design stands out for its innovative, creative, and problem-solving approach.”

Two Projects Selected and We Couldn’t Be Prouder
Un 2022, the Brasil Design Award received 1,670 eligible submissions from different regions of the country. Of those, only 554 were selected for the shortlist. In other words, just over 30% earned a spot among the finalists, carefully chosen by a highly qualified jury. And what a jury! As the award’s president put it, “At BDA 2022, we had the honor of presenting a majority-female jury, led, for the first time, by category presidents who were all women, representing the diversity of Brazilian women around the world. This initiative highlighted the importance of recognizing female talent in the field of design.” Every shortlisted project received the official “I was shortlisted 2022” seal and we’re beyond proud to say that two of our projects made it into this very special list.

Naming on the Shortlist: A Dream Come True
Ever since we started working with Naming, we dreamed of the day one of our projects would be recognized in a national award. Naming is such a delicate and essential part of building a Beloved Brand, so seeing Herdei o Look (“I Inherited the Look”) in the shortlist was a milestone with a special kind of joy. And the happiness didn’t stop there: we were also nominated in the category closest to our hearts, the one that has guided our work from the very beginning, Brand Design. The Botané project made the shortlist, bringing with it the authentic, down-to-earth flavor the brand conveys. Being among the finalists in this category, alongside studios and projects we admire so much, is a feeling hard to put into words. It’s the kind of recognition that speeds our hearts!

Herdei o Look
A boutique thrift shop for luxury children’s clothing, carefully handpicked to give impeccable pieces a longer life. The name, Herdei o Look, which translates to “I Inherited the Look”, was inspired by the idea that each piece is a little treasure, meant to be passed on to another child with the same care and appreciation as a family heirloom shared across generations. The visual identity reflects this concept, featuring adorable little animals wearing looks from the most iconic brands. The project was shortlisted in two categories: Naming and Brand Design for Small and Medium-Sized Businesses.

Botané
A deli and café based in Blumenau, Brazil, that brings seasonal ingredients, supports local producers, and serves honest, root-inspired food. Nature comes straight to the plate and into the visual identity. The symbol of Botané is a heart-shaped vegetable that grows in this sacred place, the earth, before becoming nourishment. The project was a finalist in the Brand Design category for small and medium-sized businesses.

Beyond Awards
The impact that design has on businesses and people is at the heart of what we do. But taking part in the BDA is also a chance to celebrate the meaningful encounters with every client who trusts our process, and to say, proudly: small businesses deserve a place among the biggest names in design. Our thanks to the ABEDESIGN team for organizing the award, to the jury and most of all, to the people who believe in us!
